NEW DELHI: OnePlus has finally launched its flagship smartphone OnePlus 5, the device that the company has been teasing since past many days. The Chinese tech company has also introduced four style covers for the smartphone. It will be available in two colour variants – Midnight Black and Slate Gray.

The handset, as OnePlus claims, is 7.25mm slim and is lighter than the 3T. Made using Anodized aluminium, the OnePlus 5 comes with a ‘new’ design as compared to the OnePlus 3T. One of the highlights of the smartphone is the inclusion of the dual rear cameras.

OnePlus says that in order to focus on clarity, the company has brought 16MP + 20MP dual rear cameras in the OnePlus 5. The 16MP sensor (Sony IMX398) comes with f/1.7 aperture, which not only results in brighter shots during low light environment but also brings better portrait shots. The secondary 20MP telephoto lens comes with f/2.6 aperture and better optical zooming capabilities.

The smartphone now has a new Portrait mode as well. The mode makes use of dual cameras and blurs the background, keeping the selected subject in focus. The manual mode too has been improved. Users can shoot in RAW mode and record videos in 4K resolution.

The OnePlus 5 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat based OxygenOS 4.5 out of the box and supports dual nano SIM cards. The new OxygenOS brings some new gesture features and is said to be lighter than before. Users can also fire up applications right from the lock screen by making screen gestures. Users can switch between colour display modes as well. Furthermore, the OnePlus 5 comes with a stronger and quieter vibration, something that was recommended by the fans.
The handset sticks with the 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) Optic Amoled display like what we have seen with the OnePlus 3T. It is powered by the flagship mobile processor, the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and comes in two variants based on 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM. The graphics and animation is handled by the Adreno 540 GPU. It is worth adding that the OnePlus 5’s 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM variants come with 64GB and 128GB inbuilt storage. Powered by a 3300mAh non-removable battery, the OnePlus 5 also supports the proprietary Dash Charging technology.
Supporting Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity along with NFC, GPS, WiFi and 4G LTE, the smartphone has a fingerprint sensor at the front below the display that is claimed to unlock the device in 0.2 seconds.
OnePlus 5 has been launched at a price tag of $479 in the United States and €499 in Europe.
